| Bio: | Five years ago my writing friend, Wendy Dunn, suggested that I join her at an online writing site. I chose as my topic 'Inspiring Women'. Two years ago the site changed and we both left to work on other projects, but I always missed this part of my writing life. It is only fitting that Wendy is the one to introduce my new livejournal. This journal will probably end up as a mixture of thoughts, feelings and events of some of the wonderful, creative and inspiring women I have met during my writing journey. ABOUT ME. I was born in Melbourne in 1941. All my life I've been a hairdresser. However, at the age of fifty, I decided to return to study as a mature age student, obtained my VCE, which led to a BA at Monash University and a MA in Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne. None of this was planned. I just took it one step at a time. It was the same with my novel, 'Pickle to Pie'. It began ten years ago as a short story, based on my father's life. When it was highly commended in the Judah Waten National Short Story Cmpetition it gave me the confidence to join the Mordialloc Writers' Group. Somehow, that story became a novel that was launched in August 2007 at the Melbourne Writer's Festival. You can imagine my delight when it was eighth best seller for the festival and was reviewed by Cameron Woodhead for the Age Newspaper. He made it 'Pick of the Week'. THE NOVEL 'Pickle to Pie' is about Frederick: a man caught between the pickle and sauerkraut culture of his German grandparents and the meat pie world of Australia. | |||||||
